About Shnongpdeng:

Shnongpdeng is a small village in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, India. It is located about 90 km to Cherrapunjee, between Shillong and Mawsynram, and sits at an altitude of around 1934 meters (6296 feet). The village is known for its orange orchards, as well as for growing rice, ginger, and pineapples. Shnongpdeng is one of the “Seven Wonders of Meghalaya” due to its stunning natural beauty. Shnongpdeng receives heavy rainfall throughout the year, with an annual average of 50,000 mm. Along with Mawlynnong, it is a popular tourist spot in Meghalaya, known for its beautiful scenery, unique living root bridges, and village tourism experience.

The name ‘Shnongpdeng’ means ‘Village Between Two Hills.’ It is located 8 kilometers north of Dawki and is accessible by traveling along the winding Umngot River. During the pre-monsoon, autumn, and winter seasons, the river’s water is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom and count the stones.
