Hello Travellers!
We all have gone on plenty of trips covering famous tourist attractions in Northeast India. But how about a trip that’s completely raw & wild?
Join us on an unforgettable 6-day journey through the quiet, hidden landscapes of Meghalaya. From walking on ancient 200-million-year-old rock beds to boating on an underground river, this trip takes us off the standard tourist path and deep into the nature and culture of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
Our journey begins with a walk under the ancient trees of the Mawphlang Sacred Grove, a forest protected for centuries by local Khasi laws that forbid taking anything out—not even a fallen leaf. From there, we travel to the village of Mawlyngbna to see real sea creature fossils set right into the rock plates. Together, we will swim in natural river pools, walk through the narrow stone walls of Luriah Canyon, and paddle across the clear waters of Umkhakoi Lake.
Next, we visit Kongthong, known as the Whistling Village, where people call out to each other across the hills using special tunes instead of names. In Wahkhen, we take on the famous Mawryngkhang Bamboo Trail, walking along bamboo paths built right onto the steep side of a river cliff.
We wake up early at Nongjrong Viewpoint to watch the sunrise over a huge, smooth white layer of clouds that covers the entire valley below us. After visiting Tyrshi Falls near Jowai and walking past green rice fields, we trek into the forest to reach Krem Chympe cave. Here, we board a small boat inside the cave to ride down its quiet river past large rock formations. We finish our trip together with a relaxing stop by the calm blue waters of Umiam Lake before heading home.
Because we believe the best adventures start where the road ends. Whether it’s gliding through mountain mist or exploring a hidden beach, we aren’t afraid to get our boots (and inturn your boots) a little muddy to find the magic.

There are 2 ways of booking this trip
The best part of the year to travel to Meghalaya depends on individual perspective. Some people feel traveling in the wild & wet season of monsoon (Jun to Sept) is best. Some others love the winter season – mid-Sept to Feb. Winters are refreshingly cold in Meghalaya (unlike the extreme climate of Himalayas) and because of the huge rainfall it receives, water remains all year around.
Some people find Meghalaya more appealing in Summer months (Mar to May). All in all, Meghalaya is an all season destination and a true wonder of nature.
Muddie Trails may decide to cancel the event if there are less than 3 travelers signed up for the trip/trek.
