πŸ”° Can you give me more info on places in Nagaland?

Nagaland is one of the Seven Sister states in North East. Though small in size, there are number of districts that are home to 17 different tribes. As part of this backpacking trip, we cover location of single tribe named Angama tribe.

πŸ‘‰Kohima is the capital city of Nagaland and Angama tribe. We cover World War II Museum & Cathedral as part of our itinerary.

πŸ‘‰ Khonoma is called India’s first green village. We go on a guided village walk over here and stay for 1 night.

πŸ‘‰ Dzuleke is a remote village without mobile network. There is nothing special, but only peace and tranquility. We go on a small stream walk in the village.

πŸ‘‰ Kigwema/Kisama are twin villages where we stay for 3 nights. Kisama is famous for Hornbill Heritage site.

πŸ‘‰ Finally, Dzukou Valley is formed of waves of mountains with dwarf bamboo trees. This is also most extreme place in terms of climate and facilities. So we need to be better prepared ⚠

πŸ”° How are stays overall?

Homestays (4 nights):
πŸ‘‰
Rooms are 3 or 4 sharing basis.
πŸ‘‰ It’s a very common practice in Nagaland to share guests between homestays. Because a homestay capacity is usually only 5 to 7 people.
πŸ‘‰ There is no concept of room heaters in Nagaland & Meghalaya.
πŸ‘‰ Hot water facility is available through geysers but electricity is a bit unreliable.

Dzukou Camp (1 night):
πŸ‘‰ Dzukou is one of the remotest parts of the country. No electricity, no mobile network, no hot water, no houses, no shops, freezing temperature, and very basic washrooms.
πŸ‘‰ People carry everything to live (Tents, Mats, Food etc.) on their shoulders from base village.
πŸ‘‰ Our Guide/Porters will arrange tents at Dzukou Camp.
πŸ‘‰ Washrooms are common & very basic at Dzukou, so please do carry your dry/wet tissues, hand sanitiser & liquid soap. Nobody takes shower here in extreme cold.

πŸ”° Do I need to carry my own Blanket, Pillow or Sleeping Bag?

πŸ‘‰ No. We will provide blankets, pillows at our stays.
πŸ‘‰ If you wish, you may carry a blanket for extra warmth. We actually recommend to carry for Dzukou Valley trek. Only the sleeping bag is usually not enough with freezing cold.

Note for Dzukou Trek: Our Guide will give you sleeping bag before starting trek. Guests need to take responsibility of their sleeping bag until full trek is complete.

πŸ”° What kind of food is served? I am a pure vegetarian, will I get veggies in Nagaland?

πŸ‘‰ Rice is the staple item in Nagaland, which they eat for Breakfast also. But for our guests they can serve bread butter jam toast, cut fruits, and sometimes Poori or Paratha, with Tea & Coffee.
πŸ‘‰ We also give 4 times Dinner as part of our Nagaland package. Basic Veg & Nonveg main course will be served with rice.
πŸ‘‰Food for Lunch outside has very limited options. Nagaland is not up there in tourism map yet. We might have to try local food also.

πŸ”° Who is responsible for running the Itinerary?

πŸ‘‰ The Trip Captain will be responsible to run the itinerary with the help of Operations Manager & Driver. Captain will accompany you starting from Station/Airport usually.
πŸ‘‰ We also have local guide for Dzukou Valley Trek for 2 days.

πŸ”° What are the group etiquettes we need to follow?

πŸ‘‰ PleaseΒ help each otherΒ and be kind to one another. On a budget backpacking group trip like this, it’s important to put personal priorities aside and go along with the group.
