Kashmir FAQs

๐Ÿ”ฐ Is it safe to travel in Kashmir?

๐Ÿ‘‰ Inspite of political issues & terrorism that are confined to certain pockets of the state, Kashmir has been relatively safe for tourists. There is a heavy Army deployment all year around.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Since 2020, Kashmir has been as safe for tourists as any other state in India.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Whether you are a solo woman traveller, couple, or group of friends, you need not worry about traveling in Kashmir. Tourists are welcomed as they contribute significantly to the local economy.

๐Ÿ‘‰ It’s important to remember there are always some exceptions.

๐Ÿ‘‰ In special scenarios, if there are any protocols to be followed based on Governmant/Police orders, our Local/Operations Team will inform you.

๐Ÿ”ฐ How about mobile network on my Kashmir trip?

๐Ÿ‘‰ Jio & Airtel work better in Kashmir. Vodafone is little bit up and down.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Overall network is decent. Network works even during journey between places.
๐Ÿ‘‰ We observed signal blackouts only in case of extreme weather conditions (like cyclone, heavy rain/snow).ย
๐Ÿ‘‰ As mentioned on website, only Postpaid sim cards work.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Most of our stays have Wi-Fi facility as well.

๐Ÿ”ฐ What are the kind of clothes I should pack as per season?

๐Ÿ‘‰ April to November โ€“ Weather is pleasant in Kashmir. No need to pack thick woolens. Just a sweater is usually enough. It is advised to check weather forecast and carry a rain proof Jacket or Poncho.

๐Ÿ‘‰ December to March โ€“ It gets very cold in winter season. One may find lots of snow and chill winds. Carry sweaters, monkey caps, thick socks, thermal inners, gloves etc. to protect from extremely cold climate.ย

Please referย โ€œThings to Packโ€ย section on our website for more details.

๐Ÿ”ฐ Can I get a trolley?

No. Backpacks are recommended.

๐Ÿ‘‰ We need to put luggage inside vehicle most of the time. That means limited luggage space.
๐Ÿ‘‰ย  Trolleys occupy lots of space. Backpacks can be easily arranged at the backside of the vehicle by our Driver.

ย

๐Ÿ”ฐ Will I need to carry my backpack every day?

No. We will either put in vehicle or at stays.

๐Ÿ‘‰ For Gulmarg & Sonamarg day trips, we will carry basic things needed in a small bag like โ€“ raincoat, hat, sunscreen, powerbank, sanitizer, water bottle, medicine etc.ย
๐Ÿ‘‰ For Pahalgam trip that has 1 Night stay, we will put entire luggage in the vehicle.
ย

๐Ÿ”ฐ How will be stay/room combinations?

๐Ÿ‘‰ Rooms combination at Homestays are usually 3 or 4 sharing basis. Sometimes we may give 2 sharing based on group combinations and availability.
๐Ÿ‘‰ย Depending on group setup, our Operations Manager will assign rooms everywhere. Itโ€™s not possible to take any special requests.

๐Ÿ”ฐ Do I need to carry my own Blanket?

๐Ÿ‘‰ No. We will provide everything needed at our stays.

๐Ÿ”ฐ Can I visit places other than itinerary?

๐Ÿ‘‰ No, we already have handpicked best places in Kashmir that can be covered in 6 days. Itโ€™s not possible to change itinerary unless an unexpected situation happens.

๐Ÿ”ฐ How much cash I need to carry for miscellaneous expenses?

๐Ÿ‘‰ In Winter months one has to carry atleast 10K cash as Snow activities like Snow-Bike, Sledging, Skiing, Snow-Boarding etc. are more premium & expensive.

๐Ÿ‘‰ In remaining months, it’s okay to carry around 5K cash for Pony ride and other misc. expenses.

๐Ÿ‘‰ In Srinagar town, even Gpay/Paytm etc will work.

๐Ÿ”ฐ Explain about last point of "Exclusions" list?

โœ–๏ธ Any extra cost arising due to any change in the itinerary/stay on account of bad weather, traffic-congestion, landslides/roadblocks, natural calamities, political disturbances and/or any other factors beyond organizersโ€™ control.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Let’s consider following example:
Assume for some reason Srinagar to Pahalgam route traffic movement is blocked. Since we cannot go to Pahalgam now, we need to return to Srinagar. But Pahalgam stay won’t return us money. Since we need to book fresh stay in Srinagar, travelers have to bear extra stay expenses for the night.

๐Ÿ‘‰ There can be more such scenarios/examples. We cannot rule out such scenarios in himalayas/mountains. But the probability of occurance is very rare.

๐Ÿ‘‰ This is a universal rule of tourism industry. Nothing special about our company.

๐Ÿ”ฐ Should I be mindful/careful about anything?

๐Ÿ‘‰ As mentioned in the “Special Notes for Kashmir” section on website, tourism industry is very un-organized in Kashmir.ย

๐Ÿ‘‰ We need to be watchful while buying things suggested by locals. They might be fake or overpriced.

๐Ÿ‘‰ We need to be careful while renting Ponys (horses) or availing different Snow activities as locals quote high price to tourists. Need to bargain a lot for everything.ย

๐Ÿ”ฐ What are the group etiquettes we need to follow?

๐Ÿ‘‰ย Pleaseย help each otherย and be kind to one another. On a budget backpacking group trip like this, itโ€™s important to put personal priorities aside and go along with the group.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Please do not argue with Co-travelers or Driver or Locals in Kashmir. If you need anything then politely request but not demand. Give respect and take respect.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Finally do read Terms & Conditions of Kashmir trip. If anyone violates the Terms in a way that causes inconvenience to Co-travelers or hinders the smooth running of the trip, it wonโ€™t be tolerated.
