Tucked between Brahmaputra valley on one side, and high mountain passes of Myanmar on the other side, Nagaland is a small mountainous state with unique and colorful culture.
Our North east tour package for Nagaland starts from Dimapur Airport and Railway station. Our first destination is Khonoma which is called “Green Village”. A walk around the village will introduce us to the culture of Nagas.
We will then head to Kisama village to experience the true culture of Nagas ranging from food, attire, music to tasting locally blended rice beer. Kisama Heritage village is the home to the most famous Hornbill Festival of Nagas that is celebrated with pomp and glory in the first 10 days of December every year. It’s absolutely an amazing experience out there to immerse in Naga culture and participate in the colorful festival attended by people around the world.
And then the real heavenly experience beckons – a trek to The Dzukou Valley. The spectacular “mountain wave” setting of Dzukou valley is almost unbelievable. It feels like a setting straight out of fairy tales and makes you wonder – how on Earth such a marvelous creation is plausible!?
We will finish the trip with magnificence of Kohima Cathedral & the warm stay at Dimapur.
One thing is certain, that you will have lots of stories to tell after this backpacking trip!
Let’s be part of Festival of Festivals – The Hornbill!

The Hornbill Festival, also known as the “Festival of Festivals,” is celebrated annually in Nagaland during the first 10 days of December. It showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Naga tribes through traditional music, dance, food, art, and indigenous games.
Hornbill Festival will take place from 1st to 10th December at Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima, Nagaland.
The package includes local travel (Dimapur to Dimapur), 5 nights stay, 5 breakfasts, 2 dinners, Hornbill entry tickets, Dzukou trek and camping fees, local guides, Khonoma village walk, and campfire experiences.
The Dzukou Valley Trek is moderate and suitable even for beginners with average fitness. It involves around 4–5 hours of trekking each day on a gradual uphill trail.

The package includes 5 breakfasts and 2 dinners (Veg & Non-Veg). Lunches are self-sponsored, allowing travelers to explore local Naga cuisine at the festival.
Expect daytime temperatures between 8°C to 15°C and night temperatures dropping close to 0°C. It’s essential to carry thermal wear and warm jackets.

I recently experienced the professionalism of Muddie Trails while on a last minute curated trip to Nagaland Hornbill Festival 2025. Almost given a two day notice, Muddle Trails rose to the occasion, was absolutely accomodating to give me the best journey at short notice.
As a solo traveller, you expect timely and safe pick ups and drops, to Airports and stations, and they were quick to arrange the same, with responsible drivers. All challenges were met with fast and alternate resolutions which kept your mind at ease.
Trip Lead Shirky was knowledgeable, fun and breaks the ice from the get go. Together with the other camp mates, he ensured that everyone remained involved, engaged and fully immersed in this one-of-a kind festival.
Khonoma Village tour was another beautiful niche of history that lies forgotten, and a must visit. Camp sites are basic and functional. Treks were fully guided with amenities provided. Will surely be travelling with Muddie Trails in the future. A shout out again to Arpit, trip Lead Shirky and “the tribe” for this fun adventure.
Third time with Muddie Trails. This time for Hornbill Festival, and Shirky being an amazing captain made it unforgettable. Every moment was a joy, and the trails of Dzukou were absolutely mesmerising.
