Overview of Anini with Dong Package

Venture into one of India’s last truly unexplored frontiers with our Anini & Dong Valley Expedition — a journey crafted for travellers seeking raw landscapes, deep cultural encounters, and roads far beyond conventional tourism. Hidden in the far eastern Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh, this expedition unfolds through dramatic valleys, sacred rivers, remote tribal settlements, and some of the easternmost inhabited regions of India, offering an experience that feels both adventurous and profoundly transformative.

The journey begins as you explore the untouched wilderness of Dibang Valley, leading to the serene Himalayan town of Anini, surrounded by pristine forests and towering peaks. Experience the spiritual aura of Parashuram Kund, one of the region’s most revered pilgrimage sites, before travelling to Tezu, a charming town known for its scenic landscapes and cultural vibrancy. Moving further east, the adventure reaches the remote Indo-China frontier at Kibithu, where rugged mountains meet history and breathtaking Himalayan views unfold at every turn. The expedition culminates at Dong Valley, celebrated as one of the first places in India to witness sunrise, along with a visit to Kaho, proudly known as India’s First Village. Along the way, immerse yourself in the traditions of the Idu Mishmi and local Himalayan communities, traverse spectacular high-altitude roads, and witness landscapes that transition from lush river valleys to dramatic alpine terrain — making this not just a trip, but a rare expedition into India’s most untouched frontier.

Itinerary - Anini & Dong Package

Day 1 - Arrival, Journey to Namsai Golden Pagoda

  • Upon arrival at Dibrugarh Airport, meet your driver and begin the 125 km journey toward Namsai.
  • Visit the Golden Pagoda (Kongmu Kham). This Thai-style Buddhist temple is most breathtaking when illuminated in the evening. Explore the surrounding complex, including the prayer hall and the garden of meditation,
  • Once in Namsai, check into your homestay and have a traditional Khampti meal.

Day 2 - Namsai to Parashuram Kund, Walong - The gateway of Dong

  • Depart Namsai early for a 190 km drive to Walong. This route follows the turquoise Lohit River, passing through orange orchards and dense bamboo thickets.
  • Make a significant stop at Parshuram Kund, a sacred pilgrimage site on the lower reaches of the river where devotees believe sins are washed away.
  • Continue through the winding hills to Hawa Camp, a viewpoint offering a 360-degree panorama of the valley.
  • Arrive in Walong, a historic town significant for its role in the 1962 Indo-China war, and check into a local homestay.

Day 3 - The Eastern most Villages of India - Kibithu & Kaho

  • Today is dedicated to exploring the limits of the Indian border. Drive further north to Kibithu, India’s easternmost motorable village, and Kaho, the last village on the border where you can see Chinese military outposts across the line.
  • Return to Walong to visit the Walong War Memorial, which honors the soldiers of the 1962 conflict.
  • Finish the day with a long soak in the Walong Hot Springs, natural sulfur baths located along the banks of the Lohit River, perfect for muscle recovery after the previous night’s trek.

Day 4 - India's First Sunrise Trek @Dong Valley

  • Your day begins at 2:00 AM with a 90-minute steep trek to Dong Top. Reaching the summit allows you to witness the very first rays of the sun hitting Indian soil—an experience unique to this specific ridge.
  • After descent, return to your homestay for a late breakfast and much-needed rest. Spend the afternoon quietly exploring the suspension bridges over the Lohit or interacting with the local Mishmi residents.

Day 5 - Walong to Tezu

  • Depart Walong for the 180 km drive back toward Tezu. This day serves as a critical buffer to break the long journey between the two valleys.
  • Upon reaching Tezu, visit the local Mishmi tribal museum or the bustling market where you can find local organic honey and traditional hand-woven Mishmi jackets.
  • This evening provides a final touch of urban comfort before heading into the extremely remote Dibang Valley tomorrow.

Day 6 - Tezu to Anini via Mayudia Pass (8,700 ft)

  • Begin the 8-hour climb to Anini (250 km). The highlight is crossing the Mayudia Pass (8,700 ft), which is often shrouded in mist or covered in snow.
  • Safety Note: Due to the winter 2026 tiger advisory for the 40–65 km stretch between Roing and Anini, stay inside your vehicle and avoid stopping in isolated forest zones.
  • Descend into Anini, the “Land of Clouds,” and check into a homestay run by the Idu Mishmi community.

Day 7 - Dri Valley (Acheso), Chigu & Mawu Waterfalls

  • Travel 50 km from Anini to Acheso, the gateway to the Dri Valley. This area features vast alpine meadows reminiscent of Switzerland.
  • Visit the Chigu Waterfall and the Mawu Falls, which are particularly powerful during the spring melt.
  • Drive as far as the ITBP base camp, the final point accessible to civilians near the Tibet border.
  • Overnight at Chigu Camp in a wooden cottage to experience the quietest night of the trip under unpolluted starlight.

Day 8 - Emuli Grassland Trek, Return to Roing

  • Drive 25 km to the base of the Emuli Grassland. Embark on a moderate 3-hour trek up to the high-altitude meadow.
  • From the top, you are rewarded with a 360-degree view of the snow-capped Eastern Himalayas and the winding river valleys below.
  • After the trek, begin the 5-hour descent back to Roing.
  • Overnight stay at Roing. Take good rest.

Day 9 - Roing to Dibrugarh Airport Drop off

  • 6 AM start to Dibrugarh for departure. It will be 3.5 to 4 hours usually to the Airport along with a quick Breakfast stop.
  • The drive takes us across the Bhupen Hazarika Setu (Dhola-Sadiya Bridge), India’s longest river bridge, spanning 9.15 km over the Lohit River.
