Hello Trekkers!
Kumara Parvatha, standing at an elevation of 1712 meters in the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is the 6th highest peak of Karnataka, 2nd highest in Coorg. It is popular among both beginners and experienced trekkers. There are two routes for this trek from two different districts in the state. One may either trek from the Kukke Subrahmanya side or the Somwarpet side.
Our idea is to scale the summit by trekking for a day, and refresh the second day at the gurgling waters of Mallalli waterfalls in Coorg. So we shall do the trek from Somwarpet side. This route is also more conducive owing to the fact that most of the trek is through dense Shola forests, providing that all-important shade on a tough trail. There are a couple of waterfalls we will encounter in this trail.
While the other side of this trek from Kukke Subrahmanya is more famous and much more challenging, it takes 2 days of a hardcore trek with night camping. In our case, we would return to the cozy homestay by night, have our dinner, sleep off and gear up for waterfalls the next day.
Join Muddie Trails on this leisurely trek to otherwise tougher Kumara Parvatha.
Tin Factory bus stop: 10:00 PM
Indiranagar 100 Feet Road: 10:15 PM
Koramangala Sony World Signal: 10:30 PM
Goraguntepalya Metro station bus stop: 11:15 to 11:45 PM (based on traffic)
It falls under the “moderate” category as we hike up from the Somwarpet side.
It’s about a 7 Km hike from our forest check post at Beedehalli. That makes it around 14 Km trek up and down. Most of the trek path is covered by a thick forest that makes the climb all the more pleasant. Expect lots of rain, muddy trails, leeches during monsoons. Typically trekkers take around 7 to 8 hours to finish the Kumara Parvatha trek.
The months from Jun to Sept are special for Kumara Parvatha monsoon trek. It’s a great experience this time for the people who don’t care about getting drenched.
The months – Oct to Feb are very good to trek with clear skies, pleasant weather. Water will be available throughout the season at Mallalli waterfalls.
